Finally the long awaited “Ediciones Limitadas” for 2007 have arrived from Cuba and well worth the wait they are too ! Ever since the first cigars were launched some seven years ago enthusiasts and aficionados worldwide have been treated to three new and entirely unique cigars every year. Each with trademark dark Maduro wrappers and special gold and black bands sporting the year of production. This year we will have to wait a little longer for the third and final cigar, a Montecristo No4 Special Reserva - scheduled for release in the Autumn. But for fans of Romeo Y Julieta and Hoyo de Monterrey we have the new “Escudos” and “Regalos”.

Back in 2004 we were treated to a “Hoyo Especial” and this year we have a marginally smaller Corona Gorda entitled “Regalos”. Whilst the wrappers for this model failed to ignite my interest the Epicure No.1 sized cigar certainly delivered plenty of character so typical of the Hoyo brand. This milder more accessible smoke will prove particularly popular with those who enjoy the rich and complex character of tobaccos from the Jose Gener plantation.

Not to be out done by the new arrivals from Cuba Davidoff have launched a further addition to their popular Millennium range … the “Short Robusto”. You may yawn at the advent of yet another small, fat robusto from the Dominican Republic but quality smokes such as these offer a welcome alternative to the complexity of Havanas.. With an easy going draw, near faultless construction and perfect white ash the distinctive “Millennium” blend is certainly a class act. It just depends on whether you feel the overall package justifies a rather hefty price for such a short smoke !
