Cohiba
It was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro himself and was made at the then top secret but now world famous El Laguito factory. At first, it was only seen outside Cuba as gifts for heads of state and visiting diplomats.
Cohiba is said to be the original Taino Indian word for tobacco. These cigars have established themselves as the premier Havana brand as reflected in their price. Characterised by an additional third year of fermentation the tobacco imparts a smooth and distinctive taste which can be found in either the original and robust Linea Clasica or milder, more recent Linea 1492 which was launched in November 1992.
This new range of cigars was named Siglo (meaning century) to represent the five centuries since Columbus first discovered tobacco in the New World. They offer a slightly lighter flavour than the Linea Clasica. Ideal as a gift or present are the new Cohiba Siglo VI's in strikingly modern "Cohiba" tubes. An outstanding cigar in a brilliantly designed package. Arguably the best cigar to emerge from Cuba in the past decade !
The Maduro 5, the new Cuban maduro (dark wrapper) cigar line was added in 2007. The Maduro 5 is heir to the best tradition of Cuban dark wrapper cigars (capa madura), which uses the upper leaves of the plant and obtains its characteristic range of dark colors and texture through a long, complex process of fully natural fermentation. This wrapper, enhanced by 5 years of aging, is used in the new Maduro 5 line,
During the XII Festival in February 2010 Habanos s.a. presented the new Cohiba Behike line, the most exclusive Habanos s.a. has ever launched. The Cohiba Behike joins existing lines within the Cohiba brand name its three entirely new sizes with the accent on heavy ring gauge are unique.
