Named in honour of its legendary creator and Fuente family patriarch Don Carlos Fuente, Sr., Arturo Fuente Don Carlos cigars are one of the world’s most finest smokes.

To create this masterpiece, Carlos Fuente, Sr. blended together rare, vintage tobaccos that were hand selected and aged as much as 10 years. These cigars are rich and flavourful, with flawless African Cameroon wrappers, making them as appealing to the eye as they are to the palate.

Because of the select tobacco required, these cigars are among the finest cigars rolled at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. In every way possible, Carlos Fuente, Jr. strives to attain the ultimate in rich flavour, flawless wrapper colour and superior construction in every cigar that bears his fathers name.

DOUBLE ROBUSTO

The Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Double Robusto is a testament to the Fuente family’s mastery of blending. This cigar, crafted in the Dominican Republic, showcases a refined recipe of vintage Dominican binder and filler tobaccos encased in a rich, toothy Cameroon wrapper. From its appearance to its final draw, this cigar offers an intricate smoking experience with notable transitions that engage the palate.

The wrapper is a deep, inviting dark brown with a toothy texture and visible veins, adding a rustic charm. However, some reviewers noted minor imperfections near the foot of the cigar, though these did not detract significantly from the overall visual appeal.

The cigar opens with a harmonious bouquet of woodsy notes, prominently oak and hickory, intertwined with the distinct flavor of Earl Grey tea. Supporting flavours of leather, chocolate, and peanuts add depth, while a whisper of black pepper lingers in the background. The draw is effortless, producing a generous smoke output.

As the cigar progresses, leather takes the spotlight, accompanied by a persistent hickory woodiness. The flavor profile intensifies with the emergence of cinnamon and black pepper, which add a spicier dimension. Subtle hints of chocolate and honey remain, while a unique Dr Pepper-like vanilla sweetness introduces a delightful contrast of sweet and savoury notes. This complexity makes the second third a highlight of the experience.

In the final stretch, the cigar softens, revealing a mellow bourbon sweetness and indulgent flavours reminiscent of Black Forest chocolate cake. The earlier leather notes fade, making room for a creamy, vanilla-flavored coffee profile. The lingering cinnamon and pepper spice become more subdued, offering a smooth, satisfying finish.

The Don Carlos Double Robusto delivers a great burn and draw, providing consistency throughout. While some reviewers noted minor construction issues, these were exceptions rather than the rule. The cigar’s strength evolves subtly, starting on the stronger side and gradually tapering, making it an accessible yet flavourful smoke.
