Cohiba ’55 Aniversario’ Limited Edition 2021 Released in the UK market.

The Aniversario 55 is the ninth Cohiba Limited Edition and was originally intended for release in 2021 to commemorate the brand’s 55th anniversary.

The birth of Cohiba dates back to 1966 when Fidel Castro’s close confidante, Celia Sánchez, chose the name for the now world famous iconic brand. Cohiba was the word used by the island’s indigenous population, the Taino Indians, to describe the roughly rolled leaves that they smoked in religious ceremonies. You could therefore assume it was the first name for cigars, in Cuba at least.

For the next 23 years, only 3 vitolas were made (Lancero, Corona Especial and Panetela) and for 16 of those years, their existence was kept secret from everyone except the fortunate few who received them as gifts from the Cuban President. After its commercial launch in 1982 Cohiba quickly established itself as Cuba’s flagship brand and the world’s number one luxury cigar. It remains famous throughout the world for the quality of the tobacco used in its blend and attention to detail in its construction.

The 55 Aniversario is a unique size from Habanos, never having been made before, and the shape is known as a Victoria in the factories of Cuba. It measures 5 7/8” (150mm) x 57 ring gauge. This also makes it the second widest Limited Edition ever made, with only the 2014 Cohiba Robusto Supremos being an extra ring gauge point heavier.

They are presented in varnished boîte nature boxes of ten cigars with each cigar dressed with an additional foot band. As with all previous Cohiba Limited Editions, the 55 Aniversario is sure to be a much sought-after addition to the collection of cigar aficionados around the world.
